(a) the Cuban reality after almost 40 years of a communist regime, and
(b) the perspective of the sugar industry in
the social and economic life of the Cuban nation,
when it is free and democratic, within a world
of globalized and free-market economy .
Cubazucar is a non-political information service, directed primarily
to the Cuban people in the
island and the Cuban community in exile. Members from the
three sectors that comprise the
Cuban sugar industry have gathered to collaborate in this task.
They are: sugar producers
(millowners), cane farmers (growers) and workers (labor). We
will also provide information on
industrial and / or agricultural activities related to the sugar industry;
as well as on basic Cuban
industries
Our analysis will carefully examine:
(1) The bases and conditions that enabled Cuba
to become the most efficient producer and
the largest sugar exporter of the
world before the communist government.
(2) The decaying situation of the Cuban sugar
industry under Marxism.
(3) Reconstruction of the sugar industry in
a free and democratic Cuba, in order to regain its
prominence as a source for generating
foreign currency, and employment to the Cuban
economy, and its return to occupy
a high position among the largest producers and exporters
of sugar in the world.
We will offer comparative statistic data, studies by sugar experts,
opinions of economists on the
influence the sugar industry has in the Cuban economy, the prospects
of sugar as food,
commentaries of intellectuals, collaborations of members of the three
sectors of the sugar industry
now in exile, statements of persons familiar with the sugar industry
that are leaving Cuba or who
travel there, impressions on the activities related
to Cuba in Washington, D.C. in the legislative
and political aspects, summary of topics discussed in seminars
and meetings on Cuba. As all new
enterprises we will adapt our programming to the interest demonstrated
in the different topics.
We hope that the material offered to those which are communicating
with cubazucar are useful to
them for a better understanding of the problematic Cuban sugar industry.
We cherish that our assesment of the Cuban sugar industry's situation
will prove to be helpful to
the Cuban people inside and outside the island.
Thank you very much.
